Weekly Challenge - Revolutionary Light
Please pause for a minute and think about all the different uses that light has. You may find it easier if you write them down. Try to find at least five.
Your list may include:
Light brings life. For example through photosynthesis
Light brings protection. For example a fire in the bush against wild animals
Light is attractive. For example moths are attracted by light
Light offers hope. For example seeing a light in the distance when you are lost
Light guides. For example a lighthouse on the rocks
Light reduces fear. For example leaving a light on if you are afraid of the dark
Light is used to celebrate. For example candles at parties
Light illuminates. For example so we can read at night
Light is easily seen and recognised. For example using it to send Morse code
It is interesting that Jesus calls himself the light of the world. Please read John 9v5.
Take a moment and think about how Jesus displayed these qualities of light through his life, death and resurrection. You may find it helpful to scan a gospel to help you remember. Jesus, even though he came humbly to serve, started a revolution that continues today as we too choose to live for God and his kingdom. Ephesians Chapter 5 reminds us that we are to be imitators of God and, through the power of Holy Spirit living in us, we too are becoming more like Christ.
Choose some of the qualities of light that Jesus displayed when He was alive on earth and ask God to help these qualities grow in your own life today. Ask God to help you share these qualities to those around you. Finally, ask God to help you continue the revolution that Christ started by bringing light to all the people that you meet as we complete our year of Hope08 and look ahead to the start of 2009.
